The vineyards,
a splendid blend of nature and work of man
The
word Franciacorta does not merely evoke a geographical region (the hilly
region between Brescia and Lake Iseo, on the border between the Po Valley
and the mountain chain of the Alps) but better a historical and cultural
reality which has been shaped by the choices, the work and the conscience
of man. An important part in shaping the identity of the Franciacorta
has been played by vine and wine, the cultivation of which may have
been favoured, but not caused, by the geographical presence of the hills
and of the mild climate. The recent appreciation of the Franciacorta
wines has given back to the word Franciacorta a meaning that had been
fading away more and more since the powerful needs of the city industry
had darkened the economical identity of the region together with its
cultural and historical background.
